Seven-Point Container Inspection Process
(recommended for all containers prior to loading):
1. Outside/Undercarriage - should
be done prior to entering facility. The support beams on the
undercarriage should be visible.
2. Outside/Inside Doors - look for
secure and reliable locking mechanisms, different colored bonding
material, loose bolts, plates or repairs.
3 & 4. Right and Left Sides - look
for unusual repairs to structural beams, repairs to the wall on the
inside of the container (must also be visible from the outside). Use
tool to tap side walls and listen or feel for hollow sounds (may
indicate hidden compartment).
5. Front wall - look blocks and
vents (must be visible), use tool to tap front wall and listen or
feel for hollow sounds. Verify internal length of container.
6. Ceiling/Roof - verify height
from floor, make sure blocks and vents are visible. Verify that
repairs to the ceiling on the inside should also be visible from the
outside. Use tool to tap side walls and listen or feel for hollow
sounds.
7. Floor - should be a certain
height from the ceiling. Should be flat and NOT contain different
floor heights. Look for unusual repairs
